waxboxI received a message on Seifer's journal comments. Now mind, comments are screened. So, there was never any reason to delete the comment. Which the anon did. I turned off anon comments for this purpose, because usually people fuck with my head and I'm having so much fun writing him, I don't want to screw up my confidence. However, my confidence isn't rocked. People have been playing with me despite my characterization of the character and I don't think I'm even terrible at Seifer. I know and understand his character but that doesn't mean I won't end up getting rejected from the game I apped him at. I hope not, at least revisions asked but I see nothing wrong with it.
Anyway, the anon used a puppet journal to comment with a very stick in the mud message: "Hyne" is not canon. It is never uttered once in canon as a phrase like "god", a statement, a swear word, or anything like that. It is 100% fanon. He does not call Raijin and Fujin by their KH equivalent nicknames. Please stick to canon as this is not fanfic and your own world, you are expected to emulate and be how canon presents the character otherwise you should probably try your hand at memes.
Now for one, Hyne is considered the god of FF8's canon. I've played the game enough times to know this. While he may not have been a 'real' god in their world, he is still a god. I also prefer using Hyne instead of god because of my religion, so this has nothing to do with fanfic. Calling Raijin and Fujin, Rai and Fuu, is also not wrong. I imagine since we didn't see a whole lot of these threes friendship, it can only be assumed he had nicknames for them as he did everyone else. But less cruel nicknames, that are more fond. I see nothing wrong with any of it. And they didn't even say that much in the way of how I played him, just a few nitpicky things.
Hell, they even sound all prim and proper, reminding me of people back in the day who used to cosplay like their shit didn't stink and made a big deal of black people cosplaying white characters or any race cosplaying white characters.
Though ontop of this, roleplay is simply fanfiction written off one another. There is nothing wrong with headcanon. My characterization of those few things have nothing to do with fanfiction, even though I do read it. I can't even think of instances however where these things are said, but more what I say. Basically, imo, as long as Seifer isn't walking around picking up daisies and singing lullabies to stray cats, I think I'm doing okay.
Not to mention, he'd be a very surface base, shallow character if we didn't build upon who he is. Seifer isn't the main character, he doesn't have a whole lot of character development scenes, as well with his posse. We see one scene with them in the beginning, one near the end and one at the very end. They don't spend a lot of time together during those times and the one at the end that is more friendshippy? Words aren't even uttered. We do see how strong a bond with Seifer Raijin and Fujin have with him. so It would make sense for him to, well, have nicknames for them. but that bond can only be assumed and have head canon.
I don't want to play in memes, I'd rather play in a fun game where everything is possible and everything is fun with a continued storyline.
Why is dreamwidth so serious about how they play? I completely get characterization and characters should stay true to form, at their core but headcanon? No one is going to play a character exactly the same. Sorry to tell ya.
